Elders denied export permit

Company News

Elders (ASX:ELD) has announced that it no longer holds an import permit for Indonesia.

The Indonesian Director General of Livestock and Animal Health told Elders on Friday night that import permits from Australia for the third quarter aren’t being issued.

The company will now commission an independent audit of its Indonesian livestock supply chain, in the hopes that it will secure immediate partial resumption of trade.

The export ban comes after an ABC report that exposed the mistreatment of animals being exported live to Indonesia. Australian producers have since been fighting the federal government’s ban on live exports.

In the six months to March this year, Elders (ASX:ELD) posted a loss of $11.6 million.
