Qantas strike solution bigger planes

Company News

Qantas Airways Ltd (ASX:QAN) has a solution for passengers potentially affected by next week’s strikes: bigger planes.

Next week Qantas will use Boeing 767 aircraft on some routes in and out of Melbourne as industrial actions begins.

The Australian Licensed Aircraft Engineers Association has planned rolling stoppages at half a dozen major airports over a pay and conditions dispute. The union says the dispute is due to the retention of existing aircraft safety checks by licensed engineers and the growing volume of work carried out by overseas contractors.

In the last half of 2010 calendar year Qantas Airways reported an interim net profit of $239 million.
