Telstra Corporation Ltd (ASX:TLS) has inked a deal with Hollywood film studio 20th Century Fox to sharpen its competitive edge in the pay TV sector.

The telco’s customers are poised to benefit through more access to television and film content in the coming months through IPTV to the T-Box, smart TVs and BigPond.com.

Telstra’s director of IPTV, Ben Kinealy, says the latest deal will boost BigPond Movies’ catalogue to more than 2,500 titles.

Mr Kinealy has also told Computerworld Australia that Telstra will this week launch a ‘Foxtel-lite’ service through its T-Box customers to accelerate the momentum of the IPTV and on-demand content markets in Australia.

Telstra reported a net profit of $1.2 billion in the first half of its 2011 financial year.
