Fortescue Metals Group Ltd’s (ASX:FMG) chief strategist Andrew Forrest has received backing for his anti-mining tax push from independent MP Andrew Wilkie.
Mr Forrest is threatening to challenge the tax in the High Court, saying it gives advantages to big multinational miners.
Mr Forrest has met with the Treasurer, Resources Minister and independent MPs Mr Wilkie and Bob Katter. Mr Wilkie said the concerns of smaller miners should be considered.
In the first half of the 2011 financial year Fortescue Metals generated a net profit of $309 million.
