BHP Billiton Ltd’s (ASX:BHP) fourth-quarter production report may be impacted by a train derailment on its main Newman iron ore railway in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.
According to The Australian BHP’s iron ore train derailed over the weekend, and though operations resumed on Monday, BHP has warned it could impact output.
The company has not provided the estimated financial impact of the derailment, instead telling the paper that the information will be disclosed when the miner releases its fourth quarter production report in July.
In the first six months of its 2011 financial year BHP Billiton generated a net profit of $10.5 billion.
