SingTel subsidiary Optus predicts discounting

Company News

Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (ASX:SGT) subsidiary Optus says mobile users will enjoy a good year ahead.

Chief executive Paul O’Sullivan says carriers will be trying to retain market share by discounting and offering greater value for customers.

Optus has tipped slower earnings growth this year due to the aggressive marketing campaigns and discounting from Telstra (ASX:TLS) and Vodafone.

For the financial year ended March 31, 2011, SingTel posted a profit of $2.9 billion.
