Just one day after reporting record earnings Westpac Banking Corporation’s (ASX:WBC) IT systems are out of action.
The systems meltdown has reportedly caused the bank’s Eftpos, internet banking and ATM services to go offline and effectively stop working.
Customers have vented their anger on social media sites.
Westpac has confirmed the error on its Twitter page, apologising for what it calls “technical issues” and advising that it is investigating.
A spokesperson has told AAP that glitch occurred after an air conditioning system failure forced one of the bank’s data centres to shutdown.
Yesterday Westpac recorded a net profit $3.99 billion in the first half of its 2011 financial year.
