Telstra wants to speed up talks

Telstra Corporation Ltd (ASX:TLS) has seen a close to record low share performance in the midst of delayed talks with the Federal Government over the National Broadband Network.

Today’s Australian Financial Review says the telco is is looking to conclude the talks with the government by the end of this month, so that it can hand over its copper network to the NBN.

But some sources say the government wants an announcement as soon as possible after the federal budget, in nine days time.

Telstra shares closed on Friday at $2.91.

In the first half of the 2011 financial year Telstra generated a net profit of $1.2 billion.
