Department store David Jones Ltd
(ASX:DJS) is set to draw on its $70 million capital expenditure budget to upgrade their 17-year-old point of sale systems.
David Jones' information technology general manager, Karen McLachlan, said the new system will also support multi-channel retailing, like online shopping and mobile commerce.
Fairfax reports that analysts have agreed the new system will improve productivity, but warn that if consumer spending remains constrained the benefits won’t be obvious.
In the six months to the 29th of January David Jones booked a net profit of $105.7 million.
