BHP to resume drilling

Company News

BHP Billiton Ltd (ASX:BHP) is set to resume drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico according to Fairfax Media.

BHP will be the second firm to be granted a permit after the oil spill. The company joins Noble Energy as the only drillers cleared to resume work.

The Obama administration stopped deep-water drilling in response to the biggest oil spill disaster in US history, which started when a BP rig exploded and sank in April last year.

BHP reported a net profit of $10.5 billion for the half year ended December 31, 2010.
