AGL (ASX:AGL) has responded to media reports this morning that Alinta Energy has made an offer to buy the Liddell Power Station.

The company says at this stage it’s not received any offer.

Alinta has advised AGL that it will submit an offer later today.

The energy company says it hasn’t sought to sell the Liddell Power station as it requires the station to provide energy to its customers until 2022.

The company has been under pressure from the Federal Government to sell the coal-fired station in the Hunter Valley, so it could stay open beyond its planned closure in 2022.
