Jetstar to push into Asia

Jetstar, the budget subsidiary of Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) is in final negotiations with more than one Asian airline.

The airline hopes to establish a new low-cost carrier joint venture in the region.

Even without setting up a new airline, Jetstar will add as many as six aircraft to its Singapore hub over the next year. Company Chief Bruce Buchanan signalled there will be a focus on China as the next step for growth.

For the year ended 30 June 2010, Qantas reported a net profit of $116 million.
