Telstra shifts jobs overseas

Telstra Corporation Ltd (ASX:TLS) has confirmed almost 80 workers have been sacked from a call centre in regional Victoria.

The telco says fewer people are needed to fulfil the roles. The work will now be done by an existing call centre overseas.

Employees working in the Ballarat call centre have been given one month’s notice.

Telstra booked a net profit of $3.9 billion in fiscal 2010.
