The a2 Milk Company (ASX:A2M) and its rival Lion Dairy and Drinks have settled their Australian legal dispute.

A2 Milk and the Japanese owned firm mutually agreed not proceed with their cases against each other.

The legal battle allegedly began in 2016 when a2 Milk disputed the use of the term ‘A2 protein’ on Lion’s PURA and Dairy Farmers products.

Both parties say, although the details are confidential they are ‘satisfied’ with the settlement and remain focused on their individual brands.

Shares in a2 Milk Company closed about 1.4 per cent higher yesterday to $7.36.
