Telstra stalls QLD flood damage estimate

Company News

Telstra Ltd (ASX:TLS) has stalled issuing an estimate on the damage it expects to incur from the Queensland floods, ahead of its half year results on 10 February.

While the telco giant is yet to formally comment on the floods, some analysts have tipped the company’s repair bill in the state could reach $50 million.

A spokesman has told the Australian Financial Review that Telstra is still in the process of assessing the damage.

The AFR speculates that Telstra is wary to put a figure on the potential damage too early, following the 2009 Victorian bushfires when the total cost incurred by the company was underestimated.

Telstra reported a net profit of $3.9 billion in the year ended 30 June 2010.
