Epat Technologies (ASX:EPT) has inked a strategic agreement with a government funded body, to use its pain assessment app with dementia patients, in exchange for $40,000 a year.

It marks the first commercial agreement, for the clinical use of its app, and will provide Dementia Support Australia (DSA) with support for its consultants.

The technology uses smartphone and tablet facial recognoition software to detect micro-expressions that indicate the presence of pain, so now DSA consultants will be able to better assess and monitor about 5,000 dementia patients per year.

The agreement will commence late September 2017 and close on 30 June 2019, although it may be terminated after 31 March 2018 with 3 months notice.

Shares in Epat Technologies (ASX:EPT) closed 1.22 per cent lower yesterday at 8.1 cents.
