Austal Limited (ASX:ASB) has been awarded its first commercial contract in Taiwan valued at $44 million.

The contract is for two 550 passenger, 50 metre long, high-speed Catamarans for Taiwan’s Brave Line.

The West Australian based shipbuilder says the contract builds on the evolution of the company’s fast ferry portfolio and re-affirms Austal’s position as an international market leader.

The Brave Line Catamarans are to be designed in Australia, but will be built by Austal’s shipyard in the Philippines.

Shares in Austal (ASX:ASB) are trading 1.5 per cent lower at $1.67.
