In the wake of the AUSTRAC money laundering disaster, The Commonwealth Bank (ASX:CBA) has announced the appointment of Robert Whitfield to its board of directors.

Robert Whitfield becomes an independent non-executive Director effective immediately.

The CBA’s Chairman Ms Catherine Livingstone says, as a former chief risk officer with Westpac,  Rob brings broad risk management and public sector experience to the board.

It comes just after a month after Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ian Narev announced he would retire by the end of the 2018 financial year.

Shares in the Commonwealth are trading down 1.34 per cent to $74.47
