Origin Energy’s loss dives to $2.2b FY17

Origin Energy (ASX:ORG) has reported its loss attributable to members, dived deeper into the red to $2.2 billion it the 2017 financial year.

The weaker result came on the back of $3.1 billion impairment charge (post tax), largely due to a reduction in the oil price.

In good news for the electricity and gas company its group revenue rose 16 per cent to $14.1 billion.

Origin Energy saw its underlying EBITDA strengthen to $2.5 billion, up from the 2016 financial year’s $1.7 billion.

The company did not declare a dividend for the 2017 financial year, nor did it pay one in 2016.

Shares in Origin Energy (ASX:ORG) are trading about 3 per cent higher to $7.08.
