Fortescue reveals FY18 innovation projects

Fortescue Metals Group (ASX:FMG) has announced three innovation projects for FY18 aimed at improving safety, productivity and efficiency. 

The iron ore giant says one of projects involves expanding the autonomous haulage technology (AHS) at the Solomon Hub, with up to 12 793F trucks being converted to AHS to improve site productivity. 

Since it introduced AHS at the Solomon Hub in 2012, the firm saw a 20 per cent uptick in productivity. 

Fortescue Metals second project, involves converting 100 haul trucks at the Chichester Hub from FY18, to AHS, to also improve productivity at the site, equivalent to Solomon. 

While the company’s third initiative involves investing in an innovative re-locatable conveyor trial at the Cloudbreak mine. 

Shares in Fortescue Metals Group (ASX:FMG) are trading 0.21 per cent higher to $4.70
