In essence, Blue Sky Alternative Investments ASX:BLA is Australia’s leading diversified alternative asset manager. It’s a business model we have pioneered in the Australian context. It is certainly unique in Australia, but it’s very common overseas.
We invest across the four major alternative asset classes, including private equity and venture capital. At Blue Sky we focus on growth capital and late stage capital. They are not start up investors; we are not leverage buy-out investors.
We invest in private real estate, with a particular focus on student accommodation and retirement living, as well as a joint venture with Cove Property Group over in the US.
We invest in real assets, which is the third major alternative asset class. And our focus there is particularly on water entitlements and agriculture. And the fourth major category of alternative assets is hedge funds, and we manage three separate hedge funds in our business.
Since we started our business almost 11 years ago now, we have grown from nothing to having over $2.7 billion in fee earning assets under management, (as at 31 December 2016). We will be at $3.3 billion by 30 June 2017 and $5 billion by the end for FY19.
