Tassal: proposing new limit at Macquarie Harbour

Tassal Group Limited (ASX:TGR) has announced it is proposing a transition to the new biomass limit at Macquarie Harbour in Tasmania, without comprising the environment, fish welfare or community.

The salmon producer is proposing to pull forward its current stock of fish harvesting to December 2017, when the fish can be harvested (in line with RSPCA guidelines), and then taken to market.

Tassal says it entered its 2016 year fish into the Harbour when its biomass limit was 33.58 tonnes per hectare, which was in the compliance limit. However, the bring forward of fish harvesting will result in its proposed biomass limit being exceeded for eight months.

The company is in contact with the EPA regarding the trial.
