Company News

BHP Billiton Ltd (ASX:BHP) has bought a Canadian potash exploration permit from Russian fertiliser maker Acron for an undisclosed amount.

A source close to the Russian company says the permit, which covers 83,880 acres, is worth slightly over $6 million.

Earlier this month, BHP abandoned a $39 billion bid for Canada’s Potash Corporation, the world’s largest crop nutrient producer.

For the year ended 30 June 2010, BHP reported a net profit of $15.26 billion.
