Fortescue Metals Group Ltd
(ASX:FMG) is broadening its interests in coal as it eyes coal deposits in Queensland.
According to The Australian, the company has bought a range of exploration permits near Emerald, Nebo and Dysart.
Previously, the company’s interest in coal has been limited to exploration permits in New Zealand.
Fortescue’s interest in Queensland was confirmed by a company spokesman who said the assessment was in the “preliminary stages.”
For the year ended 30 June 2010, Fortescue reported a net profit of $681.6 million.
