Qantas grounds A380s

Company News

Qantas Airways (ASX:QAN) is yet to say when it will lift a suspension on the grounding of its Airbus A380 superjumbos after one of its jets was forced to make an emergency landing in Singapore.

One of the aircraft’s Rolls-Royce engines failed minutes after it had left Singapore for Sydney.

Video footage of debris and smoke coming out of the wings of the flight QF32 have been released and one passenger also reported hearing a massive bang.

No one on board was hurt.

Qantas says that the incident is being investigated and it’s waiting on advice from Rolls-Royce.

In the year to 30 June 2010 Qantas posted a $116 million profit.
