Westpac to increase women in management

Company News

Westpac Banking Corporation’s (ASX:WBC) CEO Gail Kelly has outlined plans to significantly increase the amount of women in management positions at the bank.

The Sydney Morning Herald says Westpac will adopt a gender target, increasing the number of females in its top roles to 40 per cent over the next four years.

Only last week Mrs Kelly was voted as the eight most influential woman in the world by Forbes Magazine.

Westpac’s plan for gender equality comes following a similar strategy recently proposed by Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX:CBA).

SMH reports 33 per cent of the bank’s management jobs are currently held by females, and Mrs Kelly has vowed to make increasing this number her personal focus.

In the six months to the 31 March 2010 Westpac Banking Corporation booked a profit of $2.9 billion.
