Mermaid Marine Australia Ltd (ASX:MRM) has been awarded a contract by the Chevron operated Gorgon Project expected to generate over $80 million.

The three year contract will start mid next year and involves the transportation of fuel from mainland Australia to Barrow Island in support of the Gorgon Project.

In July Mermaid Marine was awarded two contracts in relation to the Gorgon Project to transport cargo and water.

Managing Director Jeff Weber says the company has extensive experience in conducting tug and barge operations in the region.

The Gorgon Project is operated by an Australian subsidiary of Chevron with joint venture partners that include ExxonMobil and Shell.

Mermaid Marine Australia reported a net profit of $37.9 million in fiscal 2010, up 43 per cent on the year before.
