Qantas Airways Ltd
(ASX:QAN) has reported an increase in July passenger numbers, up 9.1 per cent on July last year. The airline says RPK’s, the number of paying passages carried, multiplied by the number of kilometres flown, increased by 6.9 per cent and ASK’s, the number of seats available for sale multiplied by the number of kilometres flown, increased by 7.5 per cent.
The result was a revenue seat factor of 82.5 per cent, which was 0.4 percentage points lower than last year.
Total domestic yield, including Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar Domestic, was 1.3 per cent lower than the same time a year before.
This month Qantas and Australia Post confirmed the renewal of their partnership in joint ventures, Australian air Express and Star Track Express, as well as signing a new five year mail contract with a combined value of $100 million per year.
Qantas reported a profit of $117 million for the year to 30 June 2009.
