MAp Group (ASX:MAP) passenger numbers grow in May

Company News

Airport owner MAp Group (ASX:MAP) has seen a return to growth in passenger numbers across its three airports in May, as operations return to normal in Europe following the volcanic ash cloud that closed airspace earlier in April.

Total passenger numbers at Sydney Airport increased by 9% in May with domestic passenger numbers rising 11%.

CEO Kerrie Mather says the strong result for Sydney is due to a number of capacity announcements including China Southern who is to double its services from Sydney in October, and Qantas announcing capacity increases on a number of routes.

At the airport owner’s European operations, Copehagen saw an 11.9% jump in passenger numbers for the month driven by growth on SAS’ Asian routes and strong domestic passenger growth.

At Brussels numbers were up 1.9%, with the airports long haul routes continuing to experience growth on the back of recent capacity increases.

MAp Group fell into the red in 2009 posting a $572.7 million loss.
