Project development and contracting company Leighton Holdings Ltd
(ASX:LEI) has been awarded $1.5 billion worth of contracts in Australia and Indonesia.
Leighton Asia has won a six year contract extension worth $1.1 billion to expand mining services at the MSJ coal mine in Indonesia for PT Mahakamn Sumber Jaya.
The contract will see PT Leighton Contractors Indonesia, a division of Leighton Asia, expand its current overburden removal and coal mining operations to over 8 million tonnes of coal a year.
This contract takes Leighton Asia’s work in hand to record levels of over $7 billion.
Back on local turf, Thiess Services has been awarded a $405 million contract with BHP Billiton Ltd (ASX:BHP) to undertake remediation works at the Hunter River Remediation Project in NSW.
The project involves the remediation of river sediments affected by industrial activities of the former Newcastle Steelworks at Mayfield and is scheduled for completion in 2012.
Leighton Holdings booked a profit of $440.04 million for the 2009 financial year.
