Qantas Airways Ltd
(ASX:QAN) has appointed Gareth Evans as chief financial officer of the company.
Mr Evans has been acting group executive finance, performing the functions of CFO for the company since the resignation of Colin Storrie earlier this year.
He was until recently, chief financial officer of Qantas Airlines within the Qantas Group and is a director of the Qantas Foundation and Jetset Travelworld.
CEO Alan Joyce says Mr Evans was chosen after a search process that considered a very strong internal and external field.
Mr Joyce says both he and Mr Evans share a common vision of Qantas Airways operating as the world’s best premium and low-fares airlines, in Qantas and Jetstar, and the financial discipline required to ensure it remains one of the strongest airline groups in the world.
Qantas booked a profit of $117 million for the 2009 financial year.
