Global miner BHP Billiton Ltd
(ASX:BHP) and joint venture partner ExxonMobil are considering a new liquefied natural gas development in Western Australia for the Scarborough and Thebe fields.
According to a report in The Australian, head of BHP petroleum Mike Yeager says the miner is mulling over the prospect of developing standalone onshore LNG plant at Onslow.
The Australian reports Mr Yeager saying that BHP has approached Chevron about a tie-up between Scarborough and the Wheatstone project, and has held similar talks with Woodside about its Pluto project.
Back in November Woodside commented that it saw BHP’s fields as potential feed for its Pluto project.
Scarborough is a 50/50 joint venture between BHP and Exxon. In fiscal 09 BHP Billiton earned $7.24 billion.
