Company News

Junior explorer BC Iron Ltd (ASX:BCI) is poised to begin production at its joint venture project in the Pilbara in the September quarter.

BC says it expects to commence mining at its Nullagine project in the Pilbara of Western Australia, in the third quarter of this year.

The company says iron ore exports are scheduled to begin in the December quarter.

The Nullagine project is a 50/50 joint venture with iron ore miner Fortescue Metals Group (ASX:FMG).

In return for its half of the project, Fortescue has agreed to provide rail haulage, port handling and ship loading facilities to BC Iron.

Like many of its peers BC Iron’s managing director Mike Young has voiced his concern for the Federal Government’s proposed 40% tax on mining profits. BCI Iron reported a loss for fiscal 2009.
