Casino and hotel operator Crown Ltd
(ASX:CWN) says it expects its new Crown Metropol hotel in Melbourne to accommodate around 225,000 guests in its first year of operation.
Opened last night by Chairman James Packer, the 658 room hotel is Australia’s largest and the third hotel in Crown’s integrated entertainment complex in Melbourne.
Mr Packer says the company has invested over $370 million in Crown Metropol and its associated assets to ensure that Crown in Melbourne remains one of the best integrated casino resorts in the world.
According to The Australian, Crown Melbourne CEO David Courtney says the new hotel is well positioned to cater for visitors to the many conference, expo and entertainment facilities in the area.
Last month Crown announced it would spend $212 million on revamping its VIP facilities at the Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne in an effort to attract the more wealthy travellers from China and Southeast Asia.
Crown’s fiscal 2009 result was a loss of $1.197 billion.
