There is talk about that we’ll soon see more long-haul flight activity from Virgin Blue
(ASX:VBA) across the Pacific.
It follows this week’s appointment of former Qantas executive, John Borghetti as the new Virgin Blue chief executive.
Macquarie analyst Russell Shaw has told the Australian Financial Review newspaper that the Pacific region is a key area that is likely to come under Mr Borghetti’s scrutiny due to his wealth of experience with Qantas’ international operations.
Mr Borghetti is expected to review the airline’s long-haul strategy following a bumpy start for the airline’s VAustralia business.
VAustralia is expected to break even next year after a launch that coincided with the financial crisis.
However some analysts believe that there is potential for big upside despite those initial losses.
Virgin’s Blue posted a $160 million loss in 2009.
