Top airline Qantas Airways Ltd
(ASX:QAN) is considering raising some of its fares this year as air travel demand increases as the global economy starts to mend.
In a Bloomberg Television interview CEO Alan Joyce said that the company is starting to see some pricing power return to the market.
Mr Joyce told Bloomberg Television that in the domestic market in particular the company saw air fares increase before Christmas and Qantas is hoping that will occur pretty soon with some of the international markets.
After discounting heavily in an effort to entice people to travel more during the global financial crisis, Qantas increased fares by 5% in December, its first fare hike in close to 18 months.
Qantas posted net profit after tax of $117 million for the year to June 30, 2009.
