Rio Tinto
(ASX:RIO) has released its fourth quarter production results for 2016.
Chief executive Jean-Sebastien Jacques says his company delivered a strong operational performance with record bauxite production of 47.7 million tonnes, which exceeded the full year guidance (47 million tonnes).
The world's second-largest steel maker also reported that its aluminium production was 10% higher compared to 2015, and its Pilbara iron ore shipments of 327.6 million tonnes were in line with guidance.
The company also confirmed that the sale of its Lochaber aluminium assets in Scotland was finalised on 16 December 2016, and sold for $410 million.
Rio Tinto posted a net profit of $2.3 billion at 30 June 2016.
