Queensland Rail's chief operating officer, Kevin Wright, who was in charge of train driver rostering, has resigned after 16 years in the organisation.
It is understood that Mr Wright was asked to resign by management, and he will not receive a termination payment.
Mr Wright resigned following ongoing timetable issues and rostering problems during Christmas Day, where 235 train services (or one-third of the network) were cancelled.
Queensland Rail has also been plagued by driver shortages which have led to hundreds of service cancellations since October.
Also, Mr Wright is the third high-profile executive to leave Queensland Rail, after its CEO, Helen Gluer, and board chairman, Michael Klug, resigned in October.
