Plaintiff law firm, Maurice Blackburn, has filed a class action in the Federal Court of Australia against construction and engineering giant, CIMIC Group Ltd (ASX:CIM). The lead applicant in this case is a company called Inabu Pty Ltd.

Two years ago, Inabu was also the applicant in a class action filed in the Victorian Supreme Court against CIMIC for misleading and deceptive conduct.

CIMIC settled the Victorian class action for $69.5 million, and claims this new Federal Court action is “nearly identical” and raises “similar allegations”.

The company also denies there is a proper basis for the current class action and has confirmed it will defend the proceedings.

CIMIC posted a net profit of $244.6 million at 30 June 2016.
