Australian technology and software company, SmartTrans Holdings Ltd SmartTrans Holdings) is planning to open up a new online marketplace for Australian merchants to sell their products in China.

These transactions will occur through an online chatting application called “WeChat” which is incredibly popular in China. According to Amcor, WeChat has over 700 million active users, and 94% of them use it every day.

SmartTrans has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Chinese digital marketing agency (the Shanghai Dodoca Information Technology Co Ltd) to develop this new online marketplace – and it's expected to be up and running by Christmas.

SmartTrans says this marketplace will cater to both B2C and C2C channels – with a focus on the women and children demographics, which are seen as lucrative.

SmartTrans posted a net loss of $2.8 million at 30 June 2016.
