Shares in Ardent Leisure Group (ASX:AAD) have plunged almost 8%, and were one of yesterday’s worst performers.

Ardent operates the Dreamworld theme park on the Gold Coast, where a tragedy on the Thunder River Rapids ride killed four people yesterday.

Initial investigations show that two of them were crushed underneath a raft which flipped over, while the two others were taken underwater, and trapped in the ride’s conveyor belt.

The Police, Coroner, as well as Workplace Health & Safety are currently investigating this tragic incident. And the theme park has been closed “until further notice”.

Ardent Leisure posted a net profit of $42.4 million at 30 June 2016.
