Origin Energy Limited (ASX:ORG) has announced its joint venture project, Australia Pacific LNG, has produced its first LNG cargo from the second production train at Curtis Island, Gladstone.

The project is eastern Australia’s largest natural gas project and consists of two production units, each with a capacity of producing 4.5 million tonnes of LNG annually.

Since exports commenced in January, the project has so far shipped 47 LNG cargoes to customers in Asia and beyond.

Origin Managing Director Grant King has indicated the transition from development to production will see Origin recoup its investment in the project through earnings and returns from the 2018 financial year and beyond.

Origin Energy Limited reported a net loss of $576 million at 30 June 2016.
