Downer EDI to start building Christchurch motorway

Downer EDI Ltd (ASX:DOW) says its joint venture with McConnell Dowell has been awarded a contract worth NZ$195 million.

This contract is for Downer’s joint venture to deliver the second stage of the Christchurch Southern Motorway in New Zealand.

The company says construction will begin in October and is expected to finish by late 2019.

The company also says this joint venture will combine its strength in road works with McConnell Dowell’s expertise in bridges and structures.

Downer EDI reported a net profit of $180.6 million at 30 June 2016.
