Spark New Zealand Ltd (ASX:SPK) has completed a $200 million upgrade to its key customer service IT systems.

Spark says this upgrade took 4 years, and is of the largest upgrades of its kind in NZ corporate history.

The company’s Chief Digital Officer, Claire Barber, says the difficulty of this IT upgrade was like changing the engines of a Boeing 747 while it’s still flying.

In total, Spark retired 52 legacy systems, consolidated 41 systems, and migrated over 100 million customer records from copper lines to a next-generation digital system.

Spark reported a net profit of $148.1 million at 31 December 2015.
