Origin signs solar energy deal

Company News

Origin Energy Limited (ASX:ORG) says it has agreed to purchase 100 per cent of the output of the Clare Solar Farm in northern Queensland.

In a deal struck with Fotowatio Renewable Ventures, Origin will purchase the power from the site for the 13 years following the start of operations until December 2030.

The 300 hectare site is expected to be operational from 2017.

Origin says the cost of solar is falling rapidly and the deal leaves it well placed to capture renewable energy for its portfolio.

Origin Energy reported a net loss of $243 million for the six months to the end of December 2015.
