Fortescue Metals Group Limited
(ASX:FMG) has said the company will consider its options to appeal a rail access dispute after a bid to block Brockman Mining from accessing its Pilbara railway line was dismissed in court.
Chief Executive Officer Nev Power said the access seeker’s proposal was lodged nearly three years ago and the company has yet to demonstrate that it possesses the financial and management capability to carry on the proposed rail operations.
Mr Power added that in the current economic climate, Fortescue Metals consider it highly unlikely that they will be able to do so.
The miner maintains that subsidiary The Pilbara Infrastructure cannot be expected to subsidise third-party projects that are uneconomic.
Fortescue Metals recorded a net profit of 436.62 million at 31 December 2015
