Woodside Petroleum Limited
(ASX:WPL) says it has made a second gas discovery at its exploration block off the west coast of Myanmar.
The second discovery is in the Bay of Bengal, approximately 100km offshore and follows an earlier discovery in January.
Woodside has extensive acreage in the region and with interests in six large offshore permits making up around 20 per cent of its global exploration portfolio.
Recently lifted sanctions following political reform in Myanmar has opened the area up to major resource investment with expectations of world class discoveries.
Woodside reported a net profit of $929.68 million for the 2015 financial year.
