Outlook: Aus shares set to open higher

Following positive leads, the Australian share market looks set to open higher. Energy shares on Wall Street followed oil prices higher over concerns regarding output from Libya and Brazil. 
 
US factory orders fell for a second consecutive month in September. Data released by the Commerce Department showed that new orders for US manufactured goods fell 1 percent in September, following a 2.1 percent drop in August.

Markets
 
Wall Street closed up yesterday: The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.5 per cent to close at 17,918, the S&P 500 added 0.3 per cent to close at 2,110 and the NASDAQ gained 0.4 per cent to close at 5,145.
 
European markets closed up: London’s FTSE gained 0.3 per cent, Paris gained 0.4 per cent and Frankfurt is steady.
 
Asian markets closed mixed: Tokyo’s Nikkei was closed, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.9 per cent, and China’s Shanghai Composite lost 0.3 per cent.
 
The Australian share market closed higher yesterday: The S&P/ASX 200 Index closed 73 points up to finish at 5,239. On the futures market the SPI is 21 points up. 

Currencies
 
The Australian Dollar at 8:20AM was buying $US0.7194 cents, 46.64 Pence Sterling, 87.04 Yen and 65.63 Euro cents.

Economic news

Due out today from the Australian Bureau of Statistics is Retail Sales for September. Market insiders are expecting another 0.4 percent gain in retail sales following August’s lift. The ABS is also set to release trade balance numbers for September after recording a worse than expected deficit of $3.1 billion in August.
 
Company news
 
Terramin Australia Limited (ASX:TZN) announced it has agreed a share placement to raise $3 million with two new investors. Under the subscription agreement, approximately 17 million shares will be issued at a price of $0.1803 per share. The funds will be used to advance the company’s projects and provide working capital. Shares in Terramin Australia closed steady yesterday at $0.185.  
 
RCR Tomlinson Limited (ASX:RCR) has signed a memorandum of understanding to form a joint venture. The arrangement will provide RCR with access to global leaders in 3D Metal Printing with Professor Claus Emmelmann, who is heading the Institute of Laser and System Technologies and the Lazer Zentrum Nord. Shares in RCR Tomlinson closed 2.61 per cent up yesterday at $2.36.

Commodities

Gold has lost $18 to $US1,118 an ounce for the December contract on Comex.
Silver has lost $0.15 to $15.26 for December.
Copper has gained $0.02 to $2.34 a pound.
Oil has gained $1.61 to $US47.75 a barrel for December light crude in New York.
