Outlook: Aus shares set to open lower

Following weak leads, the Australian share market looks set for a soft open. Disappointing Chinese trade data weighed on international bourses. US indices fell on Tuesday with biotech shares leading the fall as investors look ahead to major earnings reports.  

Markets

Wall Street closed lower yesterday: The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.3 per cent to close at 17,082, the S&P 500 lost 0.7 per cent to close at 2,004 and the NASDAQ lost 0.9 per cent to close at 4,797.
 
European markets closed lower: London’s FTSE lost 0.5 per cent, Paris lost 0.97 per cent and Frankfurt lost 0.9 per cent.
 
Asian markets closed mixed: Tokyo’s Nikkei lost 1.1 per cent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng lost 0.6 per cent, and China’s Shanghai Composite gained 0.2 per cent.
 
The Australian share market closed lower yesterday: The S&P/ASX 200 Index closed 30 points down to finish at 5,203. On the futures market the SPI is 30 points down. 

Currencies
 
The Australian Dollar at 8:20AM was buying $US0.7240 cents, 47.49 Pence Sterling, 86.70 Yen and 63.63 Euro cents.
 
In economic news: The Westpac-MI consumer sentiment report will gauge how Australia’s leadership change has impacted confidence. Market insiders are forecasting a bounce in October’s read.
 
Company news
 
Tabcorp Holdings Limited (ASX:TAH) has filed its defence in relation to the civil proceedings brought by AUSTRAC in July this year. The government body alleged more than 100 separate breaches of the law by the gambling entertainment group. Tabcorp said it has been actively managing these matters in consultation with AUSTRAC. The hearing is scheduled to commence in September 2016. Shares in Tabcorp Holdings Limited closed 0.84 per cent up yesterday at $4.79.  
 
Coca-Cola Amatil Limited (ASX:CCL) has appointed Mr John Borghetti to its Board. The current CEO and Managing Director of the Virgin Australia Group of Airlines will join the Board as a Non-executive Director, effective 1 December 2015. Shares in Coca-Cola Amatil Limited closed 1.55 per cent up yesterday at $9.15.

Commodities

Gold has gained $4.00 to $US1,169 an ounce for the December contract on Comex.
Silver has gained $0.04 to $15.90 for December.
Copper has lost $0.04 to $2.38 a pound.
Oil has lost $0.53 to $US47.08 a barrel for November light crude in New York.
