Wesfarmers Supabarn acquisition faces ACCC concern

Wesfarmers Limited (ASX:WES) Coles plan to purchase Supabarn has been met with concern from the ACCC.
 
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has expressed unease that the takeover and Supabarn’s subsequent removal ‘may lead to significant competitive harm and loss of choice for consumers.’
 
The supermarket giant as proposed the acquisition of nine Supabarn supermarkets in NSW and ACT.
 
The ACCC has recognised that these are preliminary views and invites further submissions from interested parties as it examines the effects on competition in each proposed takeover region.
 
Wesfarmers Limited reported a net profit of $2.44 billion in the 2015 financial year.
